How to find used books online

By Deborah Graham

If you love to read, you will want to take advantage of the ability to buy used books online. When you are finished, you can sell them online as well.

It is easy to buy and sell used books online. There are all kinds of sites, including Amazon and Barnes & Noble, that sell used books online for your use and perusal. The great thing about these online used book services, is that many of them consult individual booksellers, literally searching all over the country, or perhaps over the world, for the particular book you are looking for. This is particularly useful if you are looking for rare used books online, so if you are, make sure that whatever engine that you are using offers this service.

Personally, instead of buying used books online, I really enjoy visiting used book stores in person and browsing through all of their wares to find something that suits my interests. Although the best way to find something very specific might be to buy it online where you have access to a broad range of different sites, the neat thing about going to a used bookstore is that you will never know exactly what you are going to find. I find that the excitement of bookstores is definitely preferable to the mundane experience of buying used books online.

Resources for Used Books Online

FetchBooks - Allows you to find the lowest price at 126 book stores and 60,000 sellers in one click.

Biblio - 35,000,000 used, rare and out-of-print books.

A big part of the fun of buying books in person is the opportunity to talk to the other customers, as well as the people working in the bookstore itself about literature. They spend all day, five days a week around books, and in that time they are bound to get to know their stuff pretty well. If you buy a used book online, all you get to look at is some dry list of different copies and prices. Sometimes there are customer reviews, it is true, but the quality of these is inconsistent at best. You really are much better buying your literature in book stores than used books online, because you will always have the opportunity to discuss it with someone who's opinion on it is worth something. Who knows - you might make a new friend in the process!

The one time a year when I really do buy quite a bit of used books online is around Christmas time, or more precisely, about a month before. It is just so much easier to do all of your shopping online where you can get everything from the comfort of your own house, and where you do not have to compete with the legions of shoppers who are normally almost everywhere you go.
